Morocco makes history as the first African country to make it to the semifinals of the FIFA world cup. The Atlas lions beat Portugal by a goal to nil in the quarter finals game played on Saturday December 10, 2022, at the Al Thumama Stadium (Doha).
Youssef En Nesyri headed a cross from Yahya Attiat-Allah past Portugal’s Diogo Costa to give Morocco the lead on the 42nd minute, before the first half came to a close.
Bono, who was great in goalpost for Morocco, picked up the man of the match award for his outstanding performance displayed against Portugal.
Portugal then brought on Ronaldo on the 51st minute after returning from first half. it might seem this is the last bite Ronaldo had at the world cup.
Not only becoming the first African nation to reach the semifinals of the world cup, but Morocco has also conceded just 1 open play goal at the world cup so far, scoring 5 in the process with 5 games played.
Previous African countries to come close to this achievement is Cameroon in 1990, Senegal in 2002 and Ghana in 2010 where they all got to the quarter finals.
