Asamoah Gyan has successfully launched the first ever All Regional Games on Tuesday April 9, 2024 at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel.
The games will feature nine different sporting disciplines including athletics, volleyball, football, tennis, basketball, boxing, table tennis, arm-wrestling, and e-sports. Athletes aged eighteen (18) to twenty-three (23) are qualified to partake in the games.
According to the organizers, a regional tour will be held on April 16 to create awareness of the games, after which each region will conduct trials in June to select their top sportsmen and women. All athletes selected in their regions, will compete against others from other regions.
The former black stars captain pleaded to the general public to help make the games a successful one. “Let’s make All Regional Games a successful one” Gyan said.
He continued that the success of the games will reduce Ghana’s dependency on only football at the Olympics. “We want to make sure that all the sports disciplines can also benefit. So, in the future when we go to the Olympic Games, it won’t depend only on football” Gyan added.
