Lionel Messi has won the FIFA world cup with Argentina.
The final of the Qatar 2022 FIFA world cup was played between Argentina and France. A thrilling 90 minutes of football ended in a 3 all draw with both teams.
France came from behind twice to put the game to level. Two consecutive goals from Argentina put them up in the first half. A converted penalty from Messi in the 23rd minute followed by a goal from Di Maria in the 36th minute ensured Argentina finished the first half well.
The second half got tensed as the drama of the game began from there.
France begun to respond to the Argentines from the 80th minute as PSG star Kylian Mbappe, also converted a penalty to keep France hopes alive. They got a quick succession goal on the 81st minute aided by the same man, Mbappe.
The game then travelled to extra time as a winner was not found within 90 minutes of football regulation.
Messi, with his magic masterclass, once again put Argentina upfront on the 108th minute. That goal seemed to be the last goal of the game until Mbappe scored another penalty to level things up and get his hattrick.
The game then had to be decided by penalty shootouts. Mbappe who did not seem tired of scoring stepped up to convert the first penalty for France, so as Messi did for Argentina.
France went on to miss their subsequent two penalties by Kingsley Coman and Tchouameni but scored the 4th one by Kolo Muani.
Argentina scored their next three which made the tally stand at 4-2 in favor of Argentina. This crowned them as champions of the world.
Messi won the golden ball for being the best player of the tournament coupled with the MOTM in the finals.
Kylian Mbappe, with 8 goals and 2 assists won the golden boot of the tournament.
Argentine goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez won the golden glove of the tournament while Enzo Fernandez won the young player of the tournament.
