As affected persons continue to suffer the consequences of the spilling of the Akosombo and Kpong Dams, hoping help comes in soon to ameliorate their sufferings, Members of Parliament have been busy trading harsh words at each other.
Energy Minister, Mathew Opoku Prempeh today, upon invitation from the house observed that government was on course to roll out a resettlement plan for the affected persons. According to him, the Volta River Authority had already moved to donate relief items to the affected persons led by their Members of Parliament. This however did not settle well with Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa who observed that no MP from their side had received donation from VRA, warning they “will not accept blatant lies”.
This claim was however challenged by the Majority. MP for Mpraeso, Davies Opoku insists evidence abounds on social media to the effect that the VRA made donations through MPs to the affected people.
Matters however turned heated when passionate Okudjeto Ablakwa took a swipe at the Mpraeso MP, stressing he was engaged in “blatant falsehood” and describing him as “satanic”. This however attracted a rebuttal from Davies Opoku who also described the former as “exponential satan”.
Second Deputy Speaker, Andrew Asiamah had a hard time bringing matters under control.
