Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced a cabinet-approved reduction in passport fees for ordinary applications from GH¢500 to GH¢350. However, the reduction won’t take effect immediately, pending parliamentary approval to amend the Fees and Charges Act.
Speaking at rolling out of the “switching of Ghana passport to a chip Embedded event, Hon. Ablakwa emphasized the government’s commitment to making passports more accessible while maintaining high security standards.
He assured the public that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has done its part, and now it’s up to Parliament to expedite the amendment process.
The reduction is part of the government’s efforts to address concerns about the affordability of passports, particularly following a significant price hike in 2024. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also announced plans to improve passport services, including extended operating hours and expedited processing
