Chris Hughton, the senior national football team’s head coach, has revealed the final 27-man squad for this year’s African Cup of Nations competition in Ivory Coast.

At 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 1, 2024, at the Alisa hotel, the Ghanaian coach made the news. 


The coach’s roster included three players who compete in the Ghana Premier League. Richmond Lamptey of Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Jonathan Sowah and Abdul Fatawu Hamid of Medeama SC, the current league winners, are named.

Arsenal star Thomas Partey missed out on the list due to injury. Chris on Partey: “I’ve spent a lot over this period of time with Thomas and Arsenal staff”. 

“They will treat this injury with caution, and so will the player. This is a big injury for him and the biggest injury that he’s had”.

Notable names who also missed out due to injury are Kamaldeen Sulemana, Tariq Lamptey, Daniel Kofi Kyereh, and Joseph Aidoo.

As a warm-up for the competition, Ghana will play Namibia in a friendly at the Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi on Monday, January 8, 2024.

Together with Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique, Ghana is assigned to group B. 

The competition gets underway on January 13, 2024. Ghana gets to play their first game on January 14, 2024, a day after the tournament kickoff.
